A fallen king became troubled and tormented by evil spirits, the only thing that could calm his soul were the melodies emanating from the stringed harp David strummed. Only a few years before King Saul had been anointed as first in command in all Israel and yet jealousy had corrupted the heart of the one who had it all into giving it all up in a moment of disobedience.
The Lord does not compromise, neither does he contradict Himself, regardless of how beloved the subject may be. The Lord will show mercy, but he will never compromise. The very oil that formed the seal upon the crown of Saul’s head, was the mark that became a curse when he fell from grace. The anointing oil can never be deceived, neither does it’s effect wear off, whether it works for or against you. You choose to obey the set of instructions that comes with it or not, therein deciding your fate.
The oil consecrates
Exodus 28:41“You shall put them on Aaron your brother and on his sons with him; and you shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them, that they may serve Me as priests.
The oil heals
James 5:14-16 “Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up…”
The oil makes holy
Exodus 30:25- 31″ Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil. Then use it to anoint the tent of meeting, the ark of the covenant law, the table and all its articles, the lampstand and its accessories, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand. You shall consecrate them so they will be most holy, and whatever touches them will be holy. “Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them so they may serve me as priests. Say to the Israelites, ‘This is to be my sacred anointing oil for the generations to come. Do not pour it on anyone else’s body and do not make any other oil using the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred. Whoever makes perfume like it and puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from their people.”
The oil can never be deceived, think back to the time Samuel was sent to anoint David. Samuel was just a man like the rest of us. He was an anointed man of God, knew God’s voice from growing in the house of the Lord, yet he was still a man and could have easily fallen prey to human weakness, to discern by sight and not by the spirit. Yet when it comes to the anointing of the Lord, it doesn’t matter how rigged the election may be, the rightful king will always assume the throne. The Lord will do whatever it takes to ensure his chosen one reigns. You could have a Oscar award for acting holy and set apart but the oil can never be deceived. When the Lord send His Samuel to seek out His David, will you be one of the stately brothers who look like kings and yet are not chosen or will you be the shepherd boy in whom the Father is well pleased?
